A Nonconservative Numerical Approach for Hyperbolic Systems with Source Terms: the Well-Balanced Schemes

Laurent Gosse

Abstract: We present an introduction to the Well-Balanced schemes in both cases of scalar and systems of nonhomogeneous balance laws. Our construction is based on a reformulation of the source terms as nonconservative products. Some simple self-similar Riemann solvers and thus most Godunov-type schemes can be deduced. We provide also a few relevant computational results.
