What kind of PostScript to submit?

If you are using dvips on a UNIX, DOS or Windows machine, there is usually no problem. However, if you use some other setup, there may be a variety of pitfalls to avoid. Macintosh and Windows users in particular should pay close attention to the various dialog boxes associated with printing to get this right.

Create ASCII PostScript, not Binary PostScript. Some PostScript drivers will create binary files unless you tell them otherwise. These are not as universally useful as ASCII PostScript files.
Create Level 1 PostScript, not Level 2. All PostScript printers understand Level 1 PostScript. Only reasonably modern printers understand Level 2 PostScript, and we have experienced some compatibility problems even with printers that supposedly do.
