Proposal for a Strategic University Program
in Computational Science and Engineering at NTNU
2 Objectives
Main objective:
Enable NTNU to be among the leading centers for education and
research in areas of Computational Science and Engineering of national
importance for Norway.
Partial objectives:
To improve the national level of competence to utilise
mathematics and computer science in engineering by:
enhancing the collaboration between research groups in
mathematics, computer science and engineering at NTNU
educating PhD students within computational science and
engineering
developing a software platform for future education and
research in computational science and engineering at
NTNU and SINTEF
providing a platform for active participation from NTNU
and SINTEF in the international research community in
scientific computing.
To improve the competitiveness of Norwegian marine related
industry by:
improving the quality of computational techniques and
tools for the design and analysis of fluid exposed
marine structures
providing postgraduate courses in computational marine
fluid mechanics tailored for marine engineers who are
employed in industry
bringing elements of computational science and
engineering into the curriculum for the master degree
program in marine engineering at NTNU
providing a platform for active participation from NTNU
and SINTEF in the international research community in
marine fluid mechanics.
To improve NTNU's role and position in a national collaboration
on scientific computing by:
enhancing the collaboration between research groups in
mathematics, computer science and engineering at NTNU
providing a platform for active participation from NTNU
and SINTEF in the international research community in
scientific computing
enhancing the contacts between researchers within
scientific computing and representatives from the
Norwegian industry
demonstrating the benefits of modern methods for
scientific computing on industrial problems of national
importance for Norway.
