6 Time schedule and financial plan

6.1 Time schedule

It is assumed that the hiring of doctoral students can not take place until September 1, 1998. The duration of each PhD scholarship is assumed to be 4 years, where 3 years are financed by NFR and the last year by the department at which the student is based. In order to obtained a well balanced budget over time, we have assumed that the year financed by the department can be chosen arbitrarily as one of the 4 years of the PhD period. The figure below shows the time schedule for the project. Abbreviations are used for the departments: MS=Mathematical Sciences, CS=Computer and Information Science, MH=Marine Hydrodynamics, SE=Structural Engineering. The dashed lines indicate activities that are financed by the involved departments and not by NFR.

6.2 Budget

The budget is summarised in the table below. All amounts are in 1000 NOK. The total sum for the 6 years is 12 266 kNOK.
