Markov random fields (MRFs) have been suggested as a model for
the spatial distribution of sedimentary facies in petroleum reservoirs.
However, unfavorable large-scale properties of common MRFs
have restrained their popularity for reservoir characterization.
In this article, we review a class of MRFs with more
realistic large-scale properties and present simulation examples.
