Coming to Trondheim

Your first problem is getting to Trondheim.

• From the airport: The airport is located 35 km east of Trondheim, which has frequent flight connection to the international airports in Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger. From the airport there is special airport shuttle bus to Trondheim which correpsonds with each arriving flight (the fare is 45 NOK). The shuttle bus will cross (see map below) Bakke bridge, stop at Royal Garden Hotel, Central Station, then continue to the intersection between Dronningens gate (street) and Søndre gate (street) announced as Britannia Hotel, where you should get off. Then it is approximately 75 meters to Britannia Hotel and approximately 340 meters to Hotel Norrøna.
• By train: Traveling by train within Norway gives an excellent opportunity for sightseeing. The ride from Oslo to Trondheim takes about 6 hours and 45 minutes.
• By boat: An interesting alternative way to come to Trondheim is to travel by a coastal boat from Bergen (or most cities north of Bergen), a journey of approximately 30 hours along the rugged Norwegian coastline. In the tourist season this has to be reserved well in advance, since it is very popular. Please contact your travel agent or Flyspesialisten here in Trondheim for further details.

Transportation in Trondheim

Transportation in buses from the hotels to the university and back before and after the lectures will be provided by us. There is no need for transportation down town Trondheim, since the down town area is very small.

From Trondheim to Geiranger

We are arranging the transportation from Trondheim to Geiranger by a boat ride along the coast and a bus ride from the coast through some mountainous and very scenic area to Geiranger. The transportation costs are included in the registration fee. We will go by boat from Trondheim 09.30 in the morning to Kristiansund, and then by bus to Geiranger. The boat trip will take approximately 3 hours and the bus ride will take approximately 4 hours. The boat will be a catamaran boat going at a speed of approximately 60 km/h. The most interesting part is probably the bus ride and we will stop at scenic spots along the way.

For those of you going directly to Geiranger on Sunday August 4-th there are at least the following seven possibilities:

• Take a bus from Oslo to Geiranger leaving Oslo 10.00 and arriving in Langvatn 17.00. Leaving Langvatn 17.15 and arriving at Union Hotel in Geiranger 17.55. The fare is approximately 250,- NOK.
• Fly to Molde and then take a bus to Geiranger. On Sunday there are two buses going to Geiranger. They are leaving from the bus station in Molde 14.20 and 16.25, and they arrive in Geiranger 18.05 and 20.25, respectively. The airport bus is at the bus station in Molde approximately 30 minutes after the your flight has landed. The total bus fare to Geiranger will be approximately 170,- NOK.
• Fly to Ålesund (Vigra airport) and then take a bus to Geiranger. On Sunday there is one bus going to Geiranger. It is leaving Ålesund bus station 13.15 and it arrives in Geiranger 20.25 (with a 3 hour and 20 minutes layover along the way). The airport bus is at the bus station in Å lesund 40 minutes after your flight has landed. The total bus fare to Geiranger will be approximately 150,- NOK.
• Take the train from Oslo starting 09.00 and arriving 15.33 in Å ndalsnes. Then take a bus from Åndalsnes starting 17.05 and arriving in Geiranger 20.20. The bus ride is approximately 3 hours and it will go through some very scenic parts of Norway. The total fare will approximately be 650,- NOK.
• Take the night train from Oslo to Trondheim starting in Oslo on Saturday 23.00 and arriving in Trondheim 07.25. Then join our organized transportation to Geiranger leaving Trondheim 09.00. The train fare is approximately 580,- NOK and you will pay approximately 500,- NOK for the organized transportation from Trondheim to Geiranger.
• Rent a car and drive to Geiranger.
• Finally possibility we mention is to join our organized transportation from Trondheim to Geiranger somewhere close to Kristiansund/Åndalsnes. Please contact us for further details.
