Strategies and techniques for numerical analysis of variational inequalities

DIFTA 2005–10–21

Abstract: Mathematical modelling typically yields to a system of partial differential equations, where in several applications certain inequality constraints have to be taken into account. (e.g. glaciology, computational finance or forming processes in nonlinear mechanics) We employ Galerkin schemes for the efficient treatment of such processes. Keytechnologies in this context are reliable a posteriori error control and a related optimised mesh design.
