Abstract: For a heat conduction problem with a moving boundary we consider the inverse problem of identifying the movement of the moving boundary, only with the help of data taken from certain stationary parts of the boundary. Numerical experiments are performed on a simplified, one-dimensional problem. This inverse problem relates to an industrial problem concerning the optimal control of melting furnaces.
